Servant Leader — Humble Leadership
This is a share from a recent HBR article on the concept of Servant Leader which I found aligned to my thoughts and I take the liberty to share it with you. Perhaps you also share similar views or are diametrically opposite to it. Do read it.
Some company founders or senior managers tend to view the organization as their fiefdom and the people working in them as vassals. This top-down approach may bring results but at a very high cost. A leader’s humility increases willful cooperation and builds a much happier and content workforce, and we all know that a happy workforce will keep customers happy.
Here is the executive summary to the article and if you find it interesting I have put the link for you to read further.
How Humble Leadership Really Works
Executive Summary
Top-down leadership is outdated and counterproductive. By focusing too much on control and end goals, and not enough on their people, leaders are making it more difficult to achieve their own desired outcomes. The key, then, is to help people feel purposeful, motivated, and energized so they can bring their best selves to work.
One of the best ways is to adopt the humble mindset of a servant leader. Servant leaders view their key role as serving employees as they explore and grow, providing tangible and emotional support as they do so. They actively seek the ideas and unique contributions of the employees that they serve. This is how servant leaders create a culture of learning and an atmosphere that encourages followers to become the very best they can.
