Have you heard about Mastermind Groups?

Mastermind Groups are peer advisory groups that help group members to gain from each others experience and expertise to resolve business bottlenecks.

The concept can be traced back to Napolean Hill who was the first to outline the Mastermind principles. In his book “Think And Grow Rich” he described Mastermind as: “The coordination of knowledge and effort of two or more people, who work toward a definite purpose, in the spirit of harmony”

Since then people have got together in a myriad of formats to resolve tricky issues through peer support.

What are the benefits ?

A Mastermind group brings big benefits to members through collective brainstorming in an environment of mutual respect and trust.

Some of the key benefits:

  • Solutions to persistent bottlenecks
  • Learn from experience and expertise of others
  • A reliable support network
  • Cross-business opportunities

How it works ?

A typical Mastermind group comprises 7–8 people drawn from different walks of life who meet periodically and at each meeting pick up a challenge posed by a group member.

At the meeting a member poses a challenge. An appointed facilitator questions the member to elicit all aspects of the bottleneck. Each member then takes turns to suggest solution approaches based on their experience and expertise. The group dynamics throws up information and insights that may not have been previously evident to the member.

A Mastermind group is as successful as the commitment of the members in the group and the combined sum of their experiences and expertise. It is therefore necessary that the group is composed with great diligence and have members who are ready to give and take.

What is PACT?

CorporateConnections™ has a tested Mastermind practice called PACT or Peer Advisory Counsel Team. The chapter is divided into groups of 8–9 members with an appointed facilitator. The group meets once a month to discuss one bottleneck posed by a member. The purpose is not to walk away with a solution but food for thought from the discussions to arrive at a solution that works best for the member.
